A new Graphic Arts Workshop at WeeGee House opened January 2008. The name of the studio is IIKKA, meaning shortly "for everybody".
The Graphic Arts Workshop IIKKA is a non-profit part of Espoo Visual Artists. It's a fully-equipped printmaking studio including etching types of intaglio: etching, engraving, drypoint, mezzotint, and aquatint.
Traditional etching requires exposure to toxic chemicals and materials. The regulations get more stringent, and in the foreseeable future this may lead to a formal ban.
The recent development of non-toxic chemical etchings has greatly increased the safety of intaglio. IIKKA will encourage artists to work with less nitric and organic solvents. Workshops on non-toxic etchings will be given regularly.
