Welcome to the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 3rd September, from 5 to 7 pm.
I paint acrylic paintings on canvas and draw marker pen drawings on paper. These techniques complement each other in a way that interests me. A change of scale, from large to small, a change in the expression of depth or spatiality, and a transition from multi-tone colorful to black and white.
Katri Kovasiipi writes,
Tampere Gallery Mältinrantaˈs exhibition in March 2023:
– Joensuu based artist Jukka Suhonenˈs expressive acrylic paintings and drawings seek expression above all for inner experiences. They avoid verbal expression, definitions, they do not stay in any compartments or allow closed meanings directed at themselves. They elude analytical interpretations, they are, as it were, fleeting moments. You can feel the effect of bad feeling and suffering from these paintings, but still they are above all works of art that can help both the creator and the viewer to endure world events that cause nausea. When the things we cannot put into words become visible through the artistˈs hands, they can reach a direct connection to our subconscious, to a part of our inner being that is hard to reach with words. They are like dreams that wash away evil, burden and dross from the depths of our mind. Like a dream or a skillful, dense poem, they crystallize our experiences, our fears, our relationship with the past and the future.
