The Another Chapter Around The Sun

In my paintings, I seek presence and self-reflection – through which a deeper understanding of the surrounding world can emerge. I explore vulnerability and change. Marine landscapes, seashells, flowers, and human figures recur in my work – familiar symbols that return in transformed ways. Femininity, sensitivity, and strength accompany me.
I prefer to paint without brushes, directly on unstretched canvas, using my hands and whatever tools are at hand – allowing for a bodily, intuitive approach. I work with tempera, acrylic, and oil paints, combining them in different stages of the process. I use “shell” tones: ochre, Venetian red, ultramarine blue, umber, green earth, and white to soften the palette. I aim for an expression that remains authentic and minimal.
The exhibition title The Another Chapter Around The Sun refers to the continuity of life – it layers, deepens, and opens up again and again.
Nina Sarkima (b. 1965) is a visual artist working in Espoo.. Her paintings appear as glimpses of another reality – often created quickly through an intuitive process. In her practice, she seeks to express sensitivity by remaining open to what truly wants to emerge.
