Maria Wolfram – Face to Face

Maria Wolfram creates art exploring the themes of identity, human interaction, equality, and power dynamics. The human face is a great inspiration for her. She sees the face as a landscape of emotions. Wolfram confronts the viewers with topics related to exclusion and inclusion. She makes sculptures, paintings, and installations using a unique process that combines oil paint, acrylics, ink, photographs, textiles, and collage elements. To this exhibition Wolfram brings paintings and an installation. Maria received a grant from Svenska Kulturfonden for this exhibition.

The Finnish painter and installation artist Maria Wolfram (b. 1961) lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Maria Wolfram draws inspiration from mythology, folklore, art history, and contemporary culture. A central focus of Wolfram´s work is the dynamic interplay between paint and surfaces. She is inspired by encounters with different cultures, and focuses on the female perspective, which has been overlooked throughout history. Last year her art work was included in the Seychelles Biennale of Contemporary Art, the Personal Structures exhibition in connection of the Venice Biennale, in solo exhibitions in Orimattila Art Museum and Galleria Duetto. Wolfram was also invited this year to take part with an installation consisting of 16 paintings in the 19th Asian Art  Biennale, in Dhaka Bangladesh.
