Behind Objectivity

Welcome to the opening ceremonies on Tuesday 1.4. at 17-19.

The exhibition explores the rapidly changing modern world and humanity’s place within it. What we perceive as objective reality is not as clear-cut as it seems. Technology and digital interaction shape our perceptions, emotions, and identities in ways we do not always recognize. Behind Objectivity invites viewers to consider what remains unseen yet influences us every day.

Today, human existence extends beyond physical spaces into digital worlds—social media, video games, and virtual reality. Technology does not merely serve us; it reshapes our thinking and identities. As our dependence grows, we also become its servants.

The paintings reflect this fragmented, shifting reality where humans exist in constant interaction with technology. Machines and mechanical structures often serve as metaphors for this dynamic. The style merges realism and abstraction, with color and line playing key roles. Gouache and pastel blend harmoniously, while expressive and geometric lines create depth, contrast, and movement.

A sense of instability emerges through tilted surfaces and precarious balance, evoking tension and anticipation. The repetition of elements and dynamic shifts in scale further enhance the illusion of movement. Unifying visual motifs tie the exhibition into a distinct world of color, surface, and line.

Albert Adel is a visual artist based in Vantaa. He studied at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki and is a member of the Vantaa Artists’ Association. In his art, realism and abstraction coexist—sometimes he paints realistic works, while at other times, he combines realism with abstract expression. His paintings are often based on environments created by humans, whether real or imagined.

Albert Adel uses a variety of techniques and particularly enjoys working with gouache and oil pastels, which allow him to combine the best elements of painting and drawing.

Note: The Gallery is closed on Good Friday 18.4. and on Easter Sunday 20.4.
