UNBOXING
Welcome to the opening ceremony 1.8. from 5 to 7 p.m.

“UNBOXING” is an exhibition of contemporary art made from shingles. The main focus is on mosaics. Artist Pauli Ahopelto has been working in the field of multi-arts for over two decades and is now introducing the use of shingles in a modern context.

Shingles are used ecologically and experimentally, bringing a fresh perspective to traditional material. The initial phase of creating the artworks is based on digital expression, drawing inspiration from everyday media streams or even from the camera of a mobile phone. The hand-dyed shingles create intriguing contrasts and harmonies with their organic textures. The artworks resemble landscapes, objects, and figures while incorporating futuristic elements, concepts, and hidden reflections. The result is a collage-like composition of images and abstract forms that stimulate the viewer’s imagination and associations.

“UNBOXING” encourages viewers to pause and contemplate themes of ecological sustainability and sustainable development. The artworks reflect contemporary phenomena, technology, memory, and identity, while also considering our relationship with nature. In addition to visual and symbolic meanings, “UNBOXING” explores themes by combining history, perspectives, and colorful techniques, creating meaningful and fresh insights. The exhibition revitalizes forgotten traditional material in an inspiring manner. The dynamics of the shingles challenge interaction, introducing a new rhythm into the experience.
