Runaway Boys

Welcome to Exhibition Opening on Tuesday 24.10. at 5 to 7 pm!

– Exploring the forest and its intricate roots, my art exhibition showcases the enduring presence of small birds as a recurring motif. To me, these avian creatures serve as symbolic reflections of humanity itself, embodying both its fragility and resilience. Much like how birds soar through the sky with the air beneath their wings, people too navigate the delicate balance of strength and vulnerability.

In particular, I’ve delved into the world of small birds, particularly sparrows, to address the challenges faced by today’s youth. Within these pieces, I integrate elements of street art, graffiti, and the tag markers commonly wielded by young individuals. These urban art forms seamlessly meld into my own artistic lexicon, allowing me to engage with the multifaceted issues surrounding youth in contemporary society.

Through this art project, my aim is to shed light on the often-overlooked realm of these complex subjects. This endeavor serves as a call to action, imploring both the younger generation and adults alike to confront the difficult realities that often go unnoticed.

Tiina Kivinen, born in 1971, is a visual artist with a strong international presence. Kivinen works with a particularly slow and laborious mezzotint technique. Mezzotinto is characterized by an impenetrable, fleshy black surface and a slow working technique. Its use can be thought of as a small rebellion against the rush of this time.

Tiina Kivinen’s works can be found in several public collections, including Moderna Museet (Sweden), The British Museum (London), Serlachius Museum (Mänttä), the State of Finland and H.M. Queen Sonja Art Collection (Norway). No other Finnish artist has received the H.M. Queen Sonja Art Award except for her.

Yhdistelmä fotoetsausta, taidegrafiikan syväpainomenetelmää mezzotintoa ja akryylitussia. Fotoetsauksessa näkyy tiiliseinä, jonka päälle on kirjoitettu graffitimaisesti värikkäillä akryylitusseilla "Kaupungissa on uusi seriffi." Kuvassa myös näyteikkuna, jossa lukee "Nuori Espoo". Etualalla maantasossa tumma lintu.
